According to Audi official literature SSP 990503, the MMI speed limit is based on data stored in the navigation database, while the speed limit on HUD is a recognition system read by the camera at rear mirror. Unfortunately to-date it can only recognize European road signs and it cannot display North American speed limit on HUD.

The short answer on ECU flash is YES AUDI WILL VOID WARRANTY. There are some very rare exceptions and loop holes but in 95% of the cases Audi hates ECU flashes.
